About Joe Breznick & Breznick Woodworking

Native Vermonter, Joe Breznick has been crafting fine custom furniture and cabinetry for over 15 years. Coming from a family of craftsmen, Joe's attention to detail demonstrates the quality craftsmanship expected from a juried, Guild of Vermont furniture maker.

Joe enjoys learning and teaching, as there are numerous avenues to follow in the field of furniture and cabinet making. He has taken workshops from Ian Kirby on veneering, Beth Ireland and Johannes Michelsen on wood turning and Chris Becksvoort on hand tools, joinery and the characteristics of wood. He has taught at American Sycamore Woodworkers Retreat, Maple Street School, Frog Hollow Vermont State Craft Centers and in his own studio and found it to be very rewarding.

He also enjoys occasionally collaborating with other artists for custom pieces. He has worked with a stained glass artist for door panels, black smith for knobs and tile and stone craftsmen for inlays on tables. In the last few years Joe has also been working with reclaimed wood from salvaged barns and other buildings.

Because he is passionate about his work, he takes pride in ensuring his customers are receiving the highest quality product, hand crafted one at a time. His signed pieces appreciate in value over time. Many of Joe's clients collect his custom furniture. They are family heirlooms to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Accomplishments

  • I have designed a wheel and hook system for rolling library ladders that are made from brass or steel. These private libraries and ladder systems we constructed in my Vermont studio as companion pieces and installed in the clients homes in Little Falls, New Jersey and Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
  • For the Green Mountain Festival Series, I donated a woodworking  class.
  • I taught a Mission Style bed making class for the American Sycamore Woodworkers Retreat in Clayton, Indiana.
  • I designed and built a Mission inspired bookcase for The Vermont Reading Partners fundraiser and the following year designed and built a reading lamp.
  • For a Maple Street School fundraiser, I donated a Shaker night stand.
  • I taught a wood working summer class for grades 1-4 at the Maple Street School.
  • I was involved, along with the Guild of Vermont Furniture Makers and Truex, Cullins & Partners, architects, in a wonderful project at Vermont Law School in Randolph, Vermont, where we built over 200 pieces of furniture using FSC certified lumber. I built four cherry executive desks and several classroom desks.
  • I participated in Bookends 2007, a collaborative effort of area artists creating bookends to auction off, benefiting the Mark Skinner Library in Manchester, Vermont.
  • I designed and built a bird house lamp to donate to The Regional Affordable Housing Corporation's Birdhouse Connection- bringing  people and affordable housing together, because "every creature deserves a cozy nest".
